One of the main sources of income for many generations in Peterhead has been the provided by the sea. Nowadays the fishing industry mainly focuses on demersal and pelagic fish, and the oil industry has added greatly to the town's income, but in years gone by Peterhead was well known for its whaling industry.

The whaling industry has not been apart of Peterhead life for over a hundred years as other resources such as oil diminished the need for commodities such as whale blubber, and whale meat never really caught on in this country. But the town still owes much of its income to the fishing industry, as the impressive harbour and bay illustrate, along with many fish processing factories providing major employment in the town.

Peterhead Maritime Heritage tells the story of the old fishermen and whalers and the modern fish and oil industry, with details of the developments that made Peterhead one of the main fishing ports in Europe.

Come and see the twenty minute audio visual presentation in the theatre, and see the tableaux of shipbuilding and a period kitchen interior.

There are also touch screen computers to tell how the oil and fish industry are exploited to provide natural resource and income.
