ROUTE 4 RORA MOSS CIRCULAR, PETERHEAD (19 miles) imoderate.

A scenic route using part of the Formartine and Buchan Way and circling Rora Moss, a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Start this route at Scotstown Head car park, about 800m directly east of St Fergus village. You can visit the beach here, or just admire the magnificent views. Head west, backup the access track, and take care as you crossover the A952 to take the minor road into St Fergus village. Follow Newton Road through the village, up the slight hill passing new houses on your right. Veer left at the church. Follow the undulating narrow road for about 2 miles and pass through Kinloch, Look out for Kinloch Loch on your right and its range of visiting birds. At the T junction, turn left and follow the route around the foot of Bear Hill, after 750m rum right signed, Inverugie. Look out for Inverugie Castle on the right and after a further 750m turn right to join the Formartine and Buchan Way in the direction of Longside. The Way offers lovely open views, with Mormond Hill visible ahead in the distance.

Follow the Formartine and Buchan Way for 3.5 miles. The track joins a tarred road at Longside, at this point rum right onto Station Terrace and pass through a small cluster of houses. Follow the narrow road for 1 mile to the T junction passing Woodside on your right. One mile on, take a right, signed Hythie and Balearn. After crossing the River Ugie and passing Lintmill take a right turn to Rora. 100m on at the junction, take a left to Mains of Kininmonth. At the junction rum right the route takes you around the top of Rora Moss.
